...all the answers I've gotten here have been a HUGE help, so I have one more question. This was asked of me by our man who is going to do the concrete walkway. He wants to know how deep he should pour the concrete below the angel and the granite base holding the statue. I was told by the monument company that the granite base is 6,000 pounds, so how deep did you all pour the concrete under your angel statue?

I need an answer soon. We are hoping to get the walkway poured in the next couple of weeks. We still don't have enough money to order the angel yet & it's sooo hard rasing money right now we're beginning to worry about how long the walk way will be there with no statue. I am hoping that once we begin to actually begin the walkway that people will become more interested in donating and buying bricks. We have several people who have picked up brick order forms but have not turned them in.

Cheryl, you really need a structural engineer to design a foundation for the base. To start it must go down below the frost line, which an engineer or architect will know for your area. Then the foundation needs to be properly reinforced, it's not just a chunk of concrete.

Talk to your local structural engineers. Times are tough but an angel statue is a good thing to donate to. Hopefully you have access to give a tax deductible reciept so the engineer can make an "in kind" donation of service to properly design the foundation.

Tim

We are non-profit Tim. I'll have to check to see who, in this area can determine the correct depth for us. Olney is not a very big place. So, should I check with some local construction companies and ask them to suggest someone? Thanks for the reply!!

Check with your local building inspector. Start calling architects and structural engineers. If there aren't any in Olney check in neighboring communities. Some won't want to give you a donation of service (times are tough). But keep calling and you'll find someone to help you.
